The Summit Houses

The first Summit House built in 1867 and destroyed by fire in 1900.

The Second Mt. Tom Summit House was finished in 1901 and was a popular

place for vacationing and day trips until it burned down in 1929.

The popularity of the Summit Houses began to wane by 1929 when the third Summit

House was built. It was dismantled in 1938.

The Eyrie House was popular for its long boardwalks. It was built in 1861 and stood

atop Mt. Nonotuck until 1901.

The first mountain house on Mt. Holyoke was built in 1821. It was rebuilt to include a

restaurant and hotel in 1851, and then expanded again in 1861.
