Title: A History of Golf in Holyoke
Contact: Eileen Crosby, 4134208107
Location: Community Room - Ground Floor
Description:

Join Tom Kass for a talk about the history of golf in Holyoke. Tom will cover the origins of three golf courses that existed in Holyoke and the people associated with their development through the years.

The late 19th and early 20th century brought not only industry and prosperity to Holyoke, but a demand for physical, athletic and social activities for its people.  The introduction of the sport of golf at the turn of the 20th century appealed to the mill owners and businessmen as well as the workers.  This talk will cover that history along with details about the colorful personalities involved in golf in Holyoke.

Tom is a licensed forester in Massachusetts and has been playing golf for almost 50 years.  He has been a member at two of Holyoke’s courses and has given presentations on other aspects of life in Holyoke, past and present.  Sponsored by the Holyoke History Room.  Free and open to the public.
