|Title:||Victorian Lady: Dressing from corset to gloves, with performance artist Kandie Carle|
|Contact:||Eileen Crosby, (413) 420-8107|
|Description:||You are invited to join us as Kandie Carle, fashion historian and performance artist, takes her audience on a journey of discovery through the clothing and accessories of a nineteenth-century American woman. She dresses in layer upon layer of the clothing of the Victorian period and as each piece is added, she explains how it was worn, as well as when and where it was appropriate. Throughout the presentation Ms. Carles will share insights into the clothing, lifestyle, manners, etiquette and customs of men, women and children in the Victorian Era. Included are interesting anecdotes and ‘myth busting’.
Ms. Carle draws on her a vast collection of authentic Victorian and Edwardian clothing and accessories dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the turn of the twentieth century. With many years of research in social history and fashion along with humor and grace, she shares her love of these eras with her audience. Kandie Carle has been working in the theatre since 1980 as an actress, dancer and singer throughout the US and abroad.
This event is sponsored by the Holyoke History Room, which will have on display photographs from the collection that show fashion and clothing conventions in Holyoke in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
